Many of our member organisations run one or more specific events around the time of the MG season. Some are social, some are competitive, but all are fun, and a great way to meet people in many clubs.. try before you buy!

Sunday 21st Feb – Fair Day`
Almost all of the diverse gender and sexuality sporting groups will be at Fair Day in Victoria Park (10am+), with their own stands or sharing the Team Sydney stand. There will be a number of live demos during the day, the famous Tug-of-War, and the opportunity to chat with any sporting group that takes your fancy.
Friday 26th Feb
Southern Cross Outdoors Group Bushdance
Get out your Akubra, dust off your chaps and bale that hay. Thousands of Sydney siders and visitors have had a ball at our BushDances for more than 20 years. Get set to meet old friends and new, cowboys and cowgirls all enjoying the sounds of our live band . The dances are “called” so no need to practice at home. 8pm till midnight at Marrickville Bowling and Recreational Club, with optional Barefoot Bowls at sunset. Saturday 27th Feb
DIfferent Strokes Dragonboating Club Open Day
10-12am, 1 Bank Street, Pyrmont. Come along to a training session and see what dragon boating is like!
Trainings usually last for 1.5-2 hours with a bit of warm up session on land and routine paddling on the water
What to wear: Water sports appropriate, breathable attire that dries quickly. Anti slip shoes / closed in sandals suitable for water sports. And a bottle of water to take with you on the boat!
Sydney Frontrunners in Rainbow Run
SFR will be entering a group in the Rainbow Run. Members of SFR can enter at a discounted price.
Run for love this Mardi Gras and help us raise funds for the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobbys campaigns for same sex marriage. Come dressed in a colour of the rainbow to the beautiful Sydney Park on Saturday 27th February at 9am. Walk or run 6km (6 colours of the rainbow) to the beats of DJ Sveta… but WATCH OUT for those infamous drag queens as they have water pistols and aren’t affraid to use them!!!
Bring your family, friends, partner and dog! Everyone is invited for this morning of fun!!
Sydney Rangers FC Mardi Gras Football Tournament
The 8th annual Mardi Gras Football Tournament returns for another spectacular day of football, fun and friendship at Wentworth Park, Glebe. Sydney Rangers is once again hosting this year’s event which is a 6-aside Men’s and Women’s competition. Boasting qualified referees, a BBQ and drinks stand, and a smaller field for players and spectators to bring their “rainbow babies” to join in the fun.
Registration costs $30 (incl. booking fee) for non-members & $25 (incl. booking fee) for members of Mardi Gras, Rangers, the Bats, Rovers or any LGBTI sports team. More info here

Emerald City 4th Annual Wrestling Open
The Harbour City Wrestling Club (aka Silverbacks) are hosting this event at the Dojo Room, Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre (corner Codrington St & Darlington Ave, Darlington). Participants:- $15, Spectators $5 donation. Email registration to harbourcitywrestling@gmail.com with your name, weight, age and experience level (beginner, intermediate, experience) by COB on 25th Feb. Sunday 28th Feb
Wettones Bondi Bluewater swim
8:30am to 11:30am, Bondi Beach Rd, Bondi. A different course around Bondi, this time run by Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club from near the centre of the beach. Main swim is a champagne glass-shaped course which runs out from in front of Bondi surf club, out towards McKenzies Pt, across towards Ben Buckler at the northern end of Bondi, then back into the surf club near the beach’s centre.
Sydney Skinny Ocean Swim
9-10am, Cobblers Beach, Mosman ($40/head). The Sydney Skinny is an event that guarantees that for at least one day a year, everyone (no matter their gender, size, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, financial status or physical ability) has the opportunity to drop all pretense and focus on the things that unite us and make life worth living: courage, acceptance, kindness, friendship, family, adventure, laughter, nature, shared effort, overcoming adversity, exercise, love, charity, community, diversity, helping others – and above all joy.
Sydney Frontrunners Little Black Dress Run
A 3K saunter around Darling harbour with your best outfit and accessories as we raise funds for Twenty10 for their youth projects. Starts at 11am but come early to look glamorous! Post-Event update.. the event was a great success, and Frontrunners raised over $30,000 for Twenty10. Thank you to all involved
Have A Go At Hockey with Bentstix
Played hockey before or looking for a new club ? Come along at 2-4pm to Kyeemagh Hockey field, Tancred Avenue, Kyeemagh (located 20 minutes south of Sydney CBD by car (directly south of Kingsford Smith Airport). Flyer with more info here or register for the event here.
Tennis Sydney / Amazon Tennis.. Game, Set, Love
Sunday Social Tennis with a twist – come join the men and women of Tennis Sydney and Amazons Tennis for a fun afternoon of social tennis.
The theme for this event is come dressed as your favourite tennis player, male or female. Who will come as the super brat John McEnroe or will there be the glamour of Ana Ivanovic? Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed male and female.
The afternoon will be a social day of doubles tennis with all levels catered for from beginners to advanced so come on down and have a hit and a laugh as we celebrate the Mardi Gras Festival tennis style. Light snacks and entertainment will be provided at the venue and afterwards we will head to a local watering hole for some refreshing beverages where new friends and old can get further acquainted.
12:00 to 5:00PM at Centennial Parklands Sports Centre, corner of Anzac Parade & Lang Rd, Moore Park. $10 for participants, no charge for spectators.
Fundraiser Auction for Bobby Goldsmith at the Bear Bar
This year Wett Ones will be joining other LGBT+ sports teams at the Bear Bar to raise money for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation by auctioning one of our own furry swimmers!
Monday 29th Feb
Sydney RAMS 10-pin MG tournament
Location: Manhattan Bowl, cnr Gardeners Rd and Botany Rd, Mascot.
Check In closes at 7:45 PM
Cost: $40 per person includes 3 games, shoe hire, lucky door prizes, drinks. nibblies and load of fun! Prizes for best dressed! More details on the flyer here

Tuesday 1st March
SCOG MG Bushwalk, Wentworth Falls in Blue Mountains National Park.
8:10am to 1:10 pm (if catching the train to/from Central). A medium grade walk, An amazing day walk, cliff top lunch, tropical beaches and an extraordinary forest. Just one hour south of Sydney there is a forest few have ever seen, a forest of palm trees. Not hundreds but thousands of palm trees, with full details here
Thursday 3rd March
SCOG MG Bushwalk, Burning Palms in Royal National Park, Audley.
8:15am to 1:15 pm (if catching the train to/from Central). A medium grade walk, with the option of a swim in a mountain pool, with full details here
Saturday 5th March
Sydney Frontrunners Focus Run
We are hosting this 5km run/walk on Mardi Gras morning! – BE THERE OR BE A DONUT –
Start time: 9:30am, distance: 5km, estimated time 2.5 hours
With free entry and drinks afterwards you have no excuses – bring your partners, dogs and family along. The club expects lots of visitors for this run!
The Parade – 7:45pm until 11:15pm
Bigger and better than ever before, with 12,500 glamorous participants, over 175 floats, 300 motorcycles, and more sequins and glitter than Hollywood..
If you want to be in it, and your club isn’t having a float, then join Team Sydney’s float. More details here

Sydney Women’s Baseball League Open Day
Come on down to see what’s in store this year at the 2016 SWBL Open Day, from 11am to 1pm at Mahoney Memorial Park, 570 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville. Activities include “baseball 101” training drills, information session and a BBQ so you can meet some of our League members and other new players. Our 2016 season begins on Sunday 10th April.
Our Open Day is a chance for you to show off your skills and to also help the committee work team allocations. Please ensure you come dressed to have a run around, throw a ball and do some batting.
