Team Sydney wishes to congratulate
Jim Box of Sydney Frontrunners

Jim posted the best time in his age-group at the World Championship Sprint Triathlon in Canada recently and is bringing home Gold.

Wayne Morgan (Secretary, Frontrunners) has forwarded Jim's emailed description of his event.

A brief report of the race:

Conditions were atrocious.   Air temperature was 8C with a 10km/h wind.   Water was 11.8 C and it was raining.

The swim was close to 1000m (not the 750m it's supposed to be).   My hands were almost non functioning so it took me over 4 minutes in T1 and  I forgot to put cycle gloves on.

The cycle course (21 km) was technical and challenging. I wore a cycle spray jacket so my upper body was OK but it took 2 laps before my legs warmed up.   My hands were very cold and I couldn't release my helmet strap so had to loosen it from the back and drag it over my head. This has been a common problem and some competitors have had to do the run in their helmets.

I enjoyed the run (5.2 km) even though my feet were numb for most of it.

Times: Overall: 1.27.58 - 1st in  M60
           Swim: 18.54
           T1:       1.17
           Cycle:  42.01
           T2:       2.31
           Run:    20.15 "

The Federation of Gay Games is canvassing for members - our message to other organisations:

Membership Opportunities at the Federation of Gay Games.

For some time Team Sydney has been the only FGG member in our region and we have taken a position of solid support for the FGG and Gay Games events. We intend to continue our membership and include the Gay Games in programs that support our members and member clubs in their intended activities.

Because of a change in structure within the FGG there is now opportunity for representation from our region to be increased. Membership of the FGG?s general assembly is now open to all sports organisations that meet the membership criteria. Multi sport organisations which are members additionally gain the right to vote for site selection of Gay Games? events.

Team Sydney would like to see the Gay Games move from strength to strength, become financially viable and world oriented. We view every Gay Games as a major and important event on the GLBTI sports calendar; they are focus points for training and enormously exciting excursions.

We believe increased membership from Australasia will widen the global appeal of the FGG; more members will result in more opinions being heard and knowledge from diverse markets will strengthen the organisation. Whilst Team Sydney would like to see our local voice at the FGG grow we encourage you to consider a course of action that is right for your own organisation; we will continue to represent your interests to the FGG and assist your members in preparing for participation at the Gay Games as might be required.

Please visit these links: at www.gaygames.com/en/membership/index.htm there is information about membership, an A4 brochure and membership application form available for download; broader information about the FGG can be found at www.gaygames.com/en. We will be pleased to respond to any enquiries or comments you wish to make regarding the FGG and its membership. Should you wish to refer to it, the text of this letter is on the News page of our website.
